How To 180

In this tutorial, we're going to be focusing on 180’s. Although this may seem like a super easy trick, the techniques used here for 180's are the stepping stones for more difficult, but stylish tricks.

Before Trying On Skis

Before trying a 180 on skis, try it on a trampoline. Not only will this will give you a sense of what the trick is like, but you can practice it over and over again in a short period of time. Start out by trying the 180 in different directions and at different heights.

Trying on a trampoline first is a huge confidence boost.

Once you're on the ski hill, try it out with your ski boots. This will give you a feeling of what it's like with the extra 100kg now on your feet.

Ready To Send It

Find a jump that you’re nice and comfortable with and just send it! The set up to a 180 is not much different than a straight air. You still need to have a good pop, your vision up and hands out in front. When you pop off the jump, begin rotating your shoulders while looking at the landing.

180With a 180, you don’t have to worry about setting too much rotation off the takeoff, it’s only half a spin.

Let your hips and feet rotate to 180 while you keep your vision looking at the landing. It’s really important in 180’s to spot your landing. This is because you’ll be landing switch and you need to know where you’re going.

Spot your landing in the air.

Ideally when landing switch, you’d like to land with your feet a little bit staggered so that you’re set up and ready to turn. Once you’ve landed switch, make sure you’re ready to ride out a good distance from the jump before you try to revert.

There you have it, the best way to learn 180's. Just remember it’s a good idea to get used to riding away switch so that when you’re ready to hit jumps switch, you can start linking features together right away.
